2019 Farmer’s Markets in Boston


It's that time of year that the farmers markets in Boston, MA are starting to produce fresh local vegetables and the weather is finally perfect for strolling the markets. All around our beautiful city you can find farmers markets brimming with local, affordable produce, fish, meat, cheeses and other locally Boston-made small batch products like jams and jellies. I can't think of a better way to explore around our city than to visit these markets. Farmers markets are more than just a chance to grocery shop, they are also a great gathering space for the community to get together. Here are a few of the offerings Boston, MA has to offer.

Downtown
The Copley Square Farmers Market is one of the largest markets in Massachusetts. Its mission is to partner with farmers, consumers, and communities to foster, enhance, and sustain farmers markets in Massachusetts to improve regional farm viability, consumer nutrition, and community social and economic development. Along St. James Avenue, Dartmouth Street & Boylston Street through the end of November, Tuesdays, and Fridays, 11am-6pm.

Jamaica Plain/Mission Hill
The Jamaica Plan Farmers Market is a small neighborhood market highlighting produce from Stillman's Farm and is open now through November. It is held at the Bank of America parking lot on Centre Street Tuesday 12pm-5pm and Saturday 12pm-3pm. You can locally-raised meats, bakery, and honey, in addition to the freshest produce.

Dorchester/Roxbury
The ReVision Urban Farm stand is a community-based urban agriculture project that grows produce in its own fields and provides access to affordable, nutritious and culturally appropriate food to residents of the ReVision Family Home and the extended community. Produce is sold at the Revision Urban Farm Stand, 1062 Blue Hill Avenue, Dorchester, Fridays July – October, 3-7pm, DotHouse Farmer’s Market, 1353 Dorchester Ave, Tuesdays, 11:30am-1:30pm, July – October, ReVision @ Longwood, 477 Longwood Avenue, Thursdays, 4-6pm, Thursdays June – October, and Roslindale Farmers’ Market, 1353 Dorchester Avenue, Saturdays June – September.

Boston Winter Farmer’s Markets


Farmers markets are one of the easiest places to sample the tasty harvests of local Boston, MA farms. You'll find a diversity of foods fresh from the fields and meet the people who grow your meal. Plus, every dollar paid directly to a local grower is a dollar reinvested into Boston, MA communities. Many of us frequent the markets during the summer months, but there are plenty of options in the winter to continue to buy locally grown food. Here is a sampling of some of the farmer’s markets that are open this winter in the Boston area.

Somerville Winter Market. Open Saturdays from 9:30am - 2pm through April at The Armory, about 25 vendors are featured each week. In addition to local winter produce the market features local meat, fish, eggs, cheese, and baked goods. Most weeks there is also live music!

Dorchester Winter Market. Open Saturdays from 10am – 1pm through March 30th at 6 Norfolk Street, Dorchester Center. Each week features community organizations, children's activities, and special guests. Several local farms have a bounty of winter vegetables to offer along with local meat, seafood, cheese, and more.

Natick Winter Farmer Market. Open Saturdays from 9am – 1pm, year-round, at the Natick Common or the Common Street Spirituality Center in Natick. This market features several farms, local meat and poultry, wine, seafood, coffee/tea, breads/pastries, cookies, cheese, honey, and assorted pickled vegetables.

Boston Apple Picking


It may not be officially summer anymore, but, we sure do have some enjoyable weather this time of year, here in Boston, MA. As we settle into a gorgeous autumn, a local Bostonian favorite is to visit the nearby farms and to share in the local bounty along with some fun on the side. Apple picking is a great way to visit a farm, get some local produce, and have a great time. It's not just about apples either, many have pumpkin patches, other fresh produce and baked goods, and some have farm animals. Apple picking is a great way to support your local farms. Below are some of the best the Boston, MA area has to offer.

Tougas Family Farm
Tougas Family Farm is open Tuesday-Sunday from 10am-5pm. It’s currently peach picking season and apples are just around the corner! Located at 234 Ball St., Northboro, MA.

Russell Orchards
Just 35 miles north of Boston is the family owned farm, Russell Orchards. Hayrides and pick your own is in full swing at Russell Orchards. Honey crisp, Gingergold, McIntosh, Gala, and Cortland are currently ripe for the picking. In the store you can also take your pick of a selection of fruits and vegetables from the garden. Located at 143 Argilla Road, Ipswich, MA., 9am-5pm daily.

Nashoba Valley Winery and Orchard
Nashoba Valley Winery has fun for the whole family with both local produce and apple picking, a restaurant, and of course, wine. Currently available for picking are Garnet Beauty’s, GaLa, Sentry Peaches, Plums, Zestar, and McIntosh apples. Open daily at 9:30 am for picking and 10 am for the winery. Located at 100 Wattaquadoc Hill Road, Boston, MA.

There are several pick-your-own farms in the Boston, MA area, for fresh produce year long, not just during apple picking season.
